Silly Goose
As Mothers, Wives, Sisters, Friends, Wmen, we have to take the brunt of abuse often to make the Others in our space feel more comfortable. We often hear, “The tease because they like you.”, “You make them feel safe.”, “I just don’t have anyone else to talk to.”, “This is what you wanted”.
Keeping other’s secrets, safety, happiness, is a constant expectation. You thought we could move on from here, you silly goose you.
Going through a divorce following domestic violence and years of emotional abuse, Sara Corley Martinez evaluates feeling like a fool through images of clowns in a domestic space. She explores insecurities of how others view her, and how she views herself through this long process of recovery wither her family. Playing with video performance, sculpture, drawing, and photography, Sara scratches the surface of exploring identity as a divorced, aging, mother.
